In January 2024, we resume our weekly classes in Yang-style Cheng Man Ching 37-posture form on Thursdays evenings at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior (parish hall) in Haddonfield, NJ. The hour-long classes for those still learning the form start at 7:30 PM, while classes for those who have completed the introductory course start earlier at 6:15 PM. See details below.

Although I will no longer be teaching the tai chi for health courses at The West Deptford Free Public Library in Thorofare and at the Gloucester County Library, Mullica Hill Branch, those classes will continue to by offered by Kathy Brown, an excellent tai chi instructor who also follows the methods of Dr. Lam's Tai Chi for Health Program. Please check out the dates at the libraries' websites or by calling them.

Beginning Cheng Man Ching 37 Posture Form
Time: Thursdays 7:30 to 8:30 PM

Course Description
This is the introductory course to the Cheng Man-Ching (CMC) 37-Posture Form. One-hour classes focus on the postures and movements that make up the form. As one learns, through repetition, the prescribed movements of the form, you will also learn to maintain correct posture and balance, release bodily tension, and move slowly and continuously from one posture to another.

Pre-requisites for Beginning Students: None. This course starts the form anew each September; however, new members can join this class at any time during the year, and the instructor will provide brief after-class instructions to help them catch up.

Tuition for CMC 37 course: $150 for 10 lessons, or a prorated amount when one joins in the middle of a session.

Continuing Cheng Man Ching 37 Posture Form
Time: 6:15 to 7:15 PM

Course Description
Continuing Class: We will review the Cheng Man Ching 37 Posture Form, while deepening the relaxation of the body and achieving a calm focus of the mind. As always, everything relates to the principles of tai chi as expressed in the Tai Chi Classics. Now that we are back to in-person classes, we will include structured partner work in each lesson. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in cooperative tui shou ("push hands") exercises that involve light touching and safe pushing of hands and arms, following the maxim of "stick, adhere, join, follow."

Pre-requisites for continuing students: Familiarity with all or most of the Cheng Man Ching 37 Posture Form, with the ability to do correctly the entire form following the instructor, as well as with the intention of learning the form so you can perform it independently in the future.

Tuition for each course: $150 for 10 lessons, or a prorated amount when one joins in the middle of a session.
